We’ve always had to fight to be heard
Juneteenth is a reminder—that freedom was delayed.
And that justice…
has always required action.
Because freedom isn’t given.
It’s built—through people,
through truth,
through community.
At Virginia Community Voice, that work is led by a Black woman, and carried forward by a team grounded in communities too often pushed to the margins.
We believe justice begins with listening.
With trusting that the people closest to the challenges…are closest to the solutions.
So we make space.
We build relationships.
We shift power.
Because the work of freedom—is still unfolding.
This Juneteenth, we’re raising $19,000 to continue building that kind of community across Richmond’s Southside.
If you’re able:
Give $19 in honor of Juneteenth—
a small act rooted in a larger vision of freedom and justice.
Give $190 to support community spaces
where people are heard and valued.
Give $1,900 to help sustain this work at a deeper level.
Start where you can. Be part of it.
* As part of this campaign, staff will be sharing their justice stories—short personal narratives that reflect on the experiences that have shaped how we understand fairness, power, and injustice in the world. Each story also connects back to our values and the work we do every day at VACV.
We hope you take time to read these stories and feel a little more connected to the people behind VACV and the community we are building together.
