A Unified Southside

When we started organizing on Richmond's Southside in 2017 we knew we wanted to bring people together to talk and plan how to make South Richmond a better place to live.

Since then we've helped hundreds of people see that there is more that unifies us than divides us.

We've eaten dinner together, visited on front porches, walked the neighborhoods and parks. We've planted trees, cleaned our streets, painted murals, told stories, laughed and cried.

This work, especially in Black and Latinx communities that have been historically divided and dominated by the white majority, is really powerful.

We know because so many forces seek to divide us by breaking up voting blocks, tearing down neighborhoods, and reinforcing images and stories that focus on how different we are.

Our work honors our cultural differences while also highlighting our connectivity and the common goals we want for our neighborhoods.

We need each other to survive, just as we need the land, air, and water that sustain us.

That's why one of our goals for 2024 is a UNIFIED SOUTHSIDE.
