Invest in Virginia Community Voice

When we started organizing on Richmond's Southside in 2017 we knew we wanted to bring people together to talk and plan how to make South Richmond a better place to live.

Since then we've helped hundreds of people see that there is more that unifies us than divides us.

We've eaten dinner together, visited on front porches, walked the neighborhoods and parks. We've planted trees, cleaned our streets, painted murals, told stories, laughed and cried.

This work, especially in Black and Latinx communities that have been historically divided and dominated by the white majority, is really powerful.

We know because so many forces seek to divide us by breaking up voting blocks, tearing down neighborhoods, polluting our land, air, and water, and refusing to acknowledge us for who we are.

Our work honors our differences while also highlighting our common goals, the most important of which is justice for Black, brown, and all people with marginalized identities. We need each other to stay strong in the face of oppression, especially today.

That's why our 2025 word of the year is "FORTIFY." This year, we are working to shore up, stand beside, alongside, and with those facing the worst affects of marginalization and exclusion from decisions that impact them.
